Videojet expands family of Thermal Transfer Overprinters (TTO), including the world’s first airless 107mm TTO printhead for high speed printing

The Videojet DataFlex® 6530 and 6330 TTO series offers two new printhead sizes, 107mm and 32mm respectively, increasing the Videojet TTO portfolio for manufacturers using flexible packaging

CHICAGO – May 17, 2019 – Manufacturers using flexible packaging require a thermal transfer printing solution that is quick, simple and virtually error-proof, allowing them to spend more time focusing on the critical aspects of their business, such as improving production line efficiency and reducing overall operating costs. In response to this need, Videojet has just expanded its range of TTO products with two new printhead sizes in the Videojet DataFlex 6530 and 6330 series.

The DataFlex 6530 107mm and 6330 32mm are part of the Videojet DataFlex TTO range, which is designed to give customers a more productive operation. These new Videojet printers embody the latest technology to help further improve uptime and drive productivity, quality and efficiency.

The DataFlex 6330 32mm comes with revolutionary Videojet iAssure™ technology, a feature also standard in its 53mm TTO sister models. This innovative technology is a built-in code quality checker that automatically checks for code quality and position and provides a warning when common code defects are detected. Users can then decide whether to stop the line to correct the fault, thus reducing the need to scrap or rework product. This allows operators to focus on other areas of the production line.

“Videojet iAssure™ technology helps our customers to reduce product waste and rework by automatically checking every code with no additional hardware, installation or training,” comments Heidi Wright, Business Unit Manager for Videojet Technologies. “When we researched and evaluated the customer requirements for an easy, cost effective code checking solution, we initially considered some form of traditional Vision System approach. When we took our thoughts back to the market as part of our VOC validation, customers told us that they wanted this capability to be integrated into the printer, with no additional setup requirements or adjustments because they have enough to consider without training their operators to be Vision experts. iAssure technology makes automatic code checking so simple. When a pre-set number of code defects are detected, it alerts operators by stopping the line or rejecting products with poor code quality. It also provides on-screen recommendations for production line adjustments that can help to improve the code quality. No other Thermal Transfer Overprinter in the market can do this.”

The Dataflex 6530 107mm & 6330 32mm printers are easy to integrate into typical production lines. Featuring a design that is modular and compact, they offer manufacturers and OEMs the flexibility to choose how they integrate the printer. The power supply can be placed with the controller or separated and mounted inside the packaging machine cabinet. Industry standard mounting features help to simplify installation and improve operator accessibility and interaction.

Manufacturers have also told us that they want fewer components exposed in a production environment, so these new printers have fewer cables and can also be controlled through the packaging machine’s web interface, eliminating the need for the Videojet controller. This enables manufacturers to have a single point of control for both the printer and the packaging machine.

Designed to withstand tough production lines, the DataFlex 6530 107mm and 6330 32mm are airless, all-electronic printers, eliminating the need for high-quality and expensive compressed air. The airless design feature helps to reduce operation costs, provide more precise control of the printhead movement, and increase throughput up to 25%. Operators no longer need to adjust the air pressure when trying to improve poor print quality, which can also increase the potential for premature head wear.

The DataFlex 6530 107mm and 6330 32mm printers also feature an industry-leading quick-change cassette that is designed to deliver both excellent ribbon efficiency and fast ribbon replacement, helping to maximise production uptime. With up to 1,200m ribbon capacity, manufacturers can achieve more throughput between ribbon changes.

“Our customers need solutions that deliver quick, simple and virtually error-proof operation. Now offering a wider variety of printhead sizes that incorporate industry-leading features, this TTO series, including the new 6530 107mm and 6330 32mm printers does just that”, says Wright.

Videojet Technologies introduces case coding printers to drive higher uptime

Videojet Technologies introduces case coding printers to drive higher uptime

Customer-inspired innovation helps reduce maintenance and operator intervention

Wood Dale, Illinois – January 31, 2018 – To address evolving case coding needs of manufacturers, Videojet Technologies, a global leader in coding, marking and printing solutions, introduces its latest innovations, the Videojet 2351 and 2361 high-resolution large character inkjet printers for producers with on-demand case coding operations.

Leveraging the proven patented technology of the Videojet 2300 Series, the new Videojet 2351 and 2361 not only print high quality, durable bar codes, text and images on white and brown corrugated boxes, but they also offer a new standard in simplicity of maintenance, reliability and ease-of-use.

“Retailers are demanding 100% scanability of case barcodes and CPG companies need on-demand print solutions that can meet this requirement without having to devote resources for continual monitoring of print quality and frequent maintenance. The Videojet 2300 Line of high-resolution, large character inkjet printers has been addressing this need with its patented micro-purge technology, and now we’ve innovated with the new 2351 and 2361 models — improving functionality and reducing daily maintenance to a minimum.”  says Bob Neagle, Business Unit Manager, Case Coding and Workflow Solutions at Videojet.

Replaceable in seconds with basic tools, an innovative and cost-effective return line filter helps maintain high print quality and clean operation, even on extended runs. Predecessor case coding equipment required daily cleaning of an ink collection cup and inconsistency in this prescribed maintenance interval could often lead to clogs and spills. With the new Videojet 2351 and 2361 printers, the multiple daily steps formerly required to maintain print quality have been reduced to a simple wipe of the printhead surface, simplifying maintenance and minimizing operator intervention.

As part of the Videojet 2300 Series, the 2351 and 2361 also feature a Videojet patented, automatic micro-purge technology that blows dirt and debris off the printhead surface. This technology clears potential blockages caused by dust from corrugated materials and helps these printers deliver consistently high-quality codes without the need for operator intervention. Purged ink is also recycled, providing cleaner operation and less cost from optimized ink usage. And abbreviated purge times can be coordinated in-between prints, helping to keep production lines running. Moreover, each printer’s compact ink canister can be quickly and easily changed without stopping production.

The Videojet 2351 and 2361 have a built-in display and intuitive touch controller featuring Videojet CLARiTY™ software. This software streamlines data content, helping to remove operator error from job selection. Included with the CLARiTY™ interface is a new feature that drives a printer priming process that eliminates the need for external priming equipment. This improved functionality makes it quick and easy to get the printer back online in the event it requires re-priming. Networking is also easily done with multiple printers in a leader-follower configuration with multiple devices such as scanners and data interfaces.

Adding to the printers’ ease of maintenance and minimized operator intervention is the inclusion of the Videojet LifeCycle Advantage™ service offering. This exclusive offering uses dynamic printer data, remote connectivity and Videojet expertise to keep printers operating at peak efficiency over their operational lifetime.

“Print quality is mission critical for our customers who use a print on-demand case coding solution. Without it, the flexibility and efficiency of an on-demand solution can be lost. That is why at Videojet, we strive to continuously improve our technology to help ensure that print quality is consistently achieved without much unnecessary thought or effort. This allows our customer’s resources to be redirected to other more critical tasks,” says Neagle.

The Videojet 2351 and 2361 printers are of the first of a number of innovative new products being launched by Videojet in 2017.
